To all my Tribe members and others.;
I want to reach out to everyone who received my first e-mail letter and express my deep apology for the typographical errors.

Available time for me has been limited. It has interfered with my quiet
sit down moments to send off another letter.

I work for a National & International Theatrical local that covers the entire musical spectrum such as Broadway shows, Opera, Ballet, Symphony, Movies, and Industrial Shows, dance companies & all other music events. At times, it keeps me on the move.

I also build for a Designer who designs for smaller theater companies in the San Francisco Bay Area.

For those who want to contact me. But be aware; don’t expect me to correspond immediately.

I want every dancer to keep a journal each time a club owner discriminates against you for the following reasons:
1) Race
2) Size

Here is a list of things I want everyone to write down:
1) Club name
2) Club address
3) Owner name
4) Date
5) Time
6) The full conversation and any witnesses name, phone number you can get.

News
2008 Intensive workshop in the making;
July 2008

If I get the total response needed, I will give a four day intensive
Work shop and dinner show. There will be surprise teachers plus myself with certificates.
The work shop will be limited. No walk ins. This is the only fair way a certificate can be issued.

I clearly want to express again, that the four days can only happen with total response. If not, a smaller workshop will take place.

Just a reminder that I select the group photo from the pool the dancers upload here. Someone wanted theirs removed, and that is their right, but I thought I should point out that you could some day be featured so if you are feeling shy, better not to upload a photo. Then again, they may have just left the group or tribe net, and that's why it's gone.

Sometimes belly dance competitions have special catagories just for older dancers. If you know of any of them, please post them here so members can enter if they'd like. I know Belly Dancer of the Universe used to have one.

NEW PICS

I have new pics of myself and another Mystic Hips friend from our first Gothic Belly dance performance.
We danced at a local Goth night and were very well received. Actually all night we heard how much they loved us. YEA!!!! A success.
Thanks for the suggestions :)
I did dance in my army issue training boots but actually they are more like extreme high top tennis shoes. No problems.
I hope to post more pics as other friends send them to me.

You know how we all have a bulge or a bump somewhere where we don't want it? I was watching the Tyra show and they featured a company called Spanx. They carry slimming undergarments that are supposed to be comfortable. Sixty and still dancing

I've posted a picture of my troupe the Tribal Crones. I'm sixty with thirty years of bellydance. Meleea is 65 with over 30 years of bellydance. Ja'Nena is the baby of the group. She's been bellydancing for 10 years and is 53. We just danced at the Friday show for the Ahlan Cairo Nights Workshop in Dallas, Texas.

Aren't there any dancers willing to admit their age or how long they have been dancing. Is it true old dancers never die they just fade away???
There is so much we can share here.

45 and very alive!!!

I am 45 heavier than I should be, but working on it. Teaching a couple nights a week and performing semi regularly. Much younger slimmer students cannot keep up with me. Oh, I also had two vertebre fused in my neck last Sept. One month later performed with a friend and my daughter for a local cable show.
I kept on Dancing and my neck fused in 5 months when the Doctor said it would take 6 months to a year. And I have lost 25 pounds. I feel great.
I performed a couple of months ago for a local Arabic resturant and it went over really well. As soon as I sat down for a break the customers asked the waitress if I was dancing again soon. They wanted to see me again. Of course it made me feel great.
Dont be afraid to get out there size, age, whatever. Let your beauty show in your dance.

I am proud to still be teaching and performing and wowing people at my age. My daughter is a professional Belly Dancer and I am so proud of her. I am not afraid to tell anyone my age. Wake up out there:-)

I realize the majority of dancers on Tribe net are probably under 30, or even under 25, but that's all the more reason for a place for dancers to gather who have committed two decades or more of their lives to studying this artform and all the changes it's gone through.
I realize that some dancers may not want to admit they are over 40, but no one is going to make you admit it. I'm sure dancers of all ages will end up here anyway. So let's get this hafla started.

A question for all dancers

I you can visualize still being a dancer in 20 years, how would you change the way you are taking care of yourself right now, in order to improve the odds that you will still be in excellent shape in 20 years? Would you eat differently? Move to a better location? Change religions? Give up certain bad habits? Take up certain habits?

Longevity

When I first started belly dancing in my 20's, most of my teachers were over 40. And now that I'm over 40, they are over 60 and many of them are still teaching, performing, writing and giving retreats or tours in exotic places. It's not easy to make a career of belly dancing, but it is possible.
